Ceremonies to mark Ven. Banagala’s 70th birthday

Mahabodhi Society President and Viharadhipathi of the Maligakanda Agra Sravaka Maha Viharaya, Sapugaskanda Abeysekararamaya and Founder Yoshida Foundation Ven. Banagala Upatissa Chief Sanghanayake thera turns 70 on Sunday, January 5.

A ceremony to mark the occasion will be held at the Kiribathgoda Sapugaskanda Yoshida school complex today at 11 am.

Foreign Affairs Minister Dinesh Gunawardena will be the chief guest. Law and Science Minister of the Madya Pradesh Government in India P.C. Sharma will be a special invitee. Madya Pradesh Additional Secretary Manoj Srivastava, and Madya Pradesh Police Additional Director General Anuradha Shankar will also participate.

Parallel to this event, the students of Sapugaskanda Yoshida Shokanji International School in league with their parents, well wishers and past students will stage a green environmental walk and an exhibition vehicle parade themed “Block the Date for Parade of Pride.”

It will be flagged off at Kiribathgoda - Hunupitiya junction at 8.30 am on this day jointly by DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon and Madya Pradesh Police Additional Director General Anuradha Shankar.
