Cabinet Decisions

  • Updating the National Physical Plan of Sri Lanka


In accordance with the approach to National Spatial System, the National Physical Plan needs to be updated to integrate the proposed policy elements in the Vistas of Prosperity Splendour. Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers considered the facts presented by Minister of Urban Development, Water Supply and Housing Facilities on updating the National Physical Plan of Sri Lanka through the Department of National Physical Planning.
 

  •  Drinking Water Quality Testing and Monitoring Program


A program has been designed by the ministry of urban development, Water Supply and Housing Facilities to check the quality of water resources managed by community based organizations. National Water Supply and Drainage Board, Department of National Community Water Supply and China Sri Lanka Research Grant Project have been proceeding as the Major parties of this project.
Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Urban Development, Water Supply and Housing Facilities to commence this project in 7 Districts which are covered by the Water Supply and Sanitary Improvement project funded by the World Bank and, implement in other districts secondly.

  • Expanding opportunities for students to enter into the interest free student loan scheme that is provided for students to pursue Degree Courses at Non-Government Higher Education Institutions.


The proposal presented by Minister of Higher Education, Technology and Innovation to expand the interest free Student Loan Scheme, with the aim of producing 10,000 Graduates with technical knowledge to meet the requirements of Vistas of Prosperity Splendor was approved by the cabinet of Ministers.
 

  • National Policy on Preschool Education.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Education to implement the National Policy on Preschools made on the opinions of experts, officials and interested parties in the field.

 

  • The National Centre which is to be set up in Pitipana, Homagama for designing Computer Based Teaching e-learning resources


Cabinet approval has already been granted for the establishment of a National Level Subject Content / Software Application Technology Centre in Narangallawatta,Kuliyapitiya West Divisional Secretariat in Kurunegalam District.
Considering the practical difficulties of setting up this centre in such a remote area, the cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Education proposed to establish this centre in Pitipan in Homagama Divisional Secretariat area.
 

  • Tea sector revival and modernization program


The Sri Lanka Tea Board and the Department of Commerce together with the relevant officials of the Sri Lankan Embassies have formulated a program to make tea a leading export industry.
Accordingly, the cabinet of Ministers approved the proposals presented by Minister of Plantation Industries and Export Agriculture, relating to the Revival and Modernization of Tea Industry.

  • Contract for Rehabilitation / Improvement of Road Sections from Kirulapana to Godagama and from Pamankata to Pokunuwita under southern road connectivity project.


The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal presented by Hon. Minister of Roads and Highways to award this contract to MAGA Engineering (PVT) Ltd. for Rs. 4,215.15 million upon the recommendation of cabinet appointed standing procurement committee.

  • Concessions for the employees in public and semi government sectors those who have been subjected to political victimization.

The proposal made by the Prime Minister, to appoint Sumudu K Wickramarachchi as the Secretary to the Committee chaired by Jagath Balapatambendi, appointed to investigate and report on political reprisals, was approved by the Cabinet.
