Flying squads to curb dengue in EP

In a bid to curb the high prevalence of dengue in the Trincomalee district, Eastern Province Governor Anuradha Yahampath yesterday ordered the authorities concerned to deploy flying squads to inspect government institutions, official quarters and abandoned buildings.

This flying squad will comprise members of the Tri Forces, Police, Samurdhi officers and the Grama Niladhari of the respective division.

The Governor made this directive during a meeting with senior government officials in the province at the Eastern Province Governor’s office yesterday, a media release from the Governor’s office said.

It was revealed at the meeting that a number of dengue breeding grounds have been identified at the Trincomalee naval base.

The Governor informed the naval officer who was present at the meeting to take appropriate measures to eradicate mosquito breeding grounds in the premises of the Navy camp.

It was also transpired at the meeting that over 2,048 dengue patients have been identified in the Trincomalee district and the highest number of cases were reported in the Trincomalee, Uppuveli and Muttur DS Divisions.
