Open verdict into death of woman at National Hospital

The Colombo City Coroner yesterday issued an open verdict over the death of a mother of two who had died at a clinic at the Colombo National Hospital after being administered an injection by a nurse.

The deceased is a resident of Korathota.

Her husband Samantha Priyalal giving evidence before Colombo City Coroner’s Court said his wife had been suffering from rheumatism for about 10 years and regularly obtained an injection from the National Hospital.

On the fateful day, she had been given the first injection and died after the second one was given about 20 minutes later, he said.

The postmortem was conducted before JMO Ravindra Samaranayake and further inquiries need to be done to ascertain the cause of death, the medical report says.
