Chilaw Marians CC led by Sri Lanka one-day cricketer Shehan Jayasuriya won the Sri Lanka Cricket Invitation Limited Overs tournament when they defeated NCC convincingly by 91 runs in the final played at the SSC grounds on Tuesday.
Invited to bat first Chilaw Marians piled up a challenging total of 295-8 with half-centuries from India’s Sumith Ghadigaonkar (79 off 77 balls, 14 fours) and Rumesh Buddhika (60 off 71 balls, 6 fours). Kamindu Mendis and Thikshila de Silva also chipped in with useful contributions of forties.
NCC in their reply began well with openers Pathum Nissanka (38) and Lahiru Udara (50) posting a stand of 70 and at one stage were well placed at 119-1 at the half way stage of the innings.
However a middle order collapse saw them being dismissed for 204 with spinners Jayasuriya and Mendis sharing six wickets between them.
