Intruder arrested, identified as treasure hunter

Four more suspects arrested in further investigations

Security at the President’s house in Kandy has been compromised by an intruder who snuck into the premises undetected on December 21.

The trespasser had scaled the perimeter wall and entered the premises undetected by security detail. Intelligence units have commenced investigations as to how the intruder had entered this high-security premises without being detected. However, the intruder had found himself locked inside the premises and was forced to approach a security officer on duty to ask how he could leave. The security officer had then arrested the suspect and had handed him over to the Kandy Police.

The suspect had told the police that he is a drug addict and had entered the premises unaware that it was the President’s house. Police had discovered through investigations that the suspect had been part of a treasure hunting group active in close proximity to the President’s house.

Upon further interrogation, police had arrested four more suspects involved in the treasure hunt.

Investigations are being carried out under the directions of the Central Province Senior DIG.
