Former Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera, presented the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) agreement to the Cabinet without informing the Parliamentary Group about it. This was one of the major causes for the election our defeat, United National Front Parliamentarian Kavinda Jayawardena said.
He was addressing the media at the UNP headquarters, Sirikotha yesterday.
Jayawardena stressed that Minister Samaraweera could have further educated the party leadership and the Parliamentary Group on the MCC agreement as an election had been called by that time.
“The people of the country should be aware of the MCC agreement,” he further added.
Commenting on the election defeat of the New Democratic Front led by the United National Party, the MP pointed out that the conflicts between the ex-President and ex-Prime Minister, insults to the Maha Sangha and the loss of youth votes are among the other reasons for their election defeat.
