Storyful and Facebook teach journalists how to identify fake news

The Facebook Journalism Project in partnership with Storyful, an industry leader in newsroom training and digital content verification, and the Centre for Investigative Reporting conducted a training programme for local journalists on ‘Content Discovery, Verification and Acquisition’ at the Cinnamon Grand on Tuesday.

Storyful Senior Editor Stephanie Hunt explained to journalists the need for verifying posts, pictures and videos that appear on social media platforms before publishing them in mainstream media, because the posts may be fake news or misinformation. She explained the many ways a post could be verified and the many online tools available to check the authenticity of pictures and videos posted on social media platforms.
