New Civil Defence Force Director General assumes duties

Rear Admiral Ananda Peiris assumed dutis as the new Director General of Civil Defence Force(CDF) on December 6, 2019. He was the Director General of Civil Defence Force during the period of 2010-2015.

Rear Admiral Ananda Peiris was born on January 29, 1954 at Karangoda in Ratnapura and hails from a respectable family; as the second child of retired Principal W.Peiris and the retired Principal Dingiri Menike Wanniarachchi. He got his primary education from the Pannipitiya Primary School and then admitted to Ananda College Colombo for his secondary education.

During his college period he was a member of the school Cadet platoon, Scout troupe, Cricket eleven, Hockey and Rugger teams. In 1973, he won the college colours as the best football player and later he succeeded as a player for Sri Lanka National team.

He was enlisted to the Sri Lanka Navy in 1974 and received the best athletic trophy during his training period. He represented the Naval football team consecutively for 10 years and won colours as the best football captain. Ananda Peiris was a member of the Sri Lanka Armed Forces football team and participated in tournaments held in Pakistan in the same year.

His forte was not only football but also rugger;he was a member of the Naval rugger team and has won colours as a rugger player.

Ananda Peiris has served as a Deputy Chairman of the Sri Lanka Football Federation for several years and later on he became the Manager of Sri Lanka Football team.

Rear Admiral Ananda Peiris was the first Commanding Officer of the Super Dora fleet in Sri Lanka Navy and performed duties as a Commanding Officer in all types of Naval ships and functioned as Commander Eastern and Western Command during the humanitarian operation.

As the Director Genaral of Civil Defence Force during the period of 2010-2015, he has executed various significant programmes such as city beautification, city construction work, religious and spiritual development workshops and promoting reconciliation among communities.

In recognition to his dedicated social and religious contribution to the society he was offered “Deshamamaka Shasanakeerthi” title. He has followed a number of local and foreign courses;Staff Course in USA, Vessel Search and Boarding Course in UK, DISS Course in Bangladesh. Medals he received; “Ranasura Padakkama”-(Three times), “Vishista Seva Vibhushana Padakkama”, “50th Anniversary Padakkama”, “Long Service Padakkama”, “Purnabhumi Padakkama”, “Wadamaarachchi Operation Padakkama”, “50th Independence Anniverasry Padakkama”, “Riviresa Operation Padakkama” and “North and East Operation Padakkama”.
