Drug trafficker sentenced to death

Drug trafficker Herath Mudiyanselage Thushara, alias ‘Kalu Thushara’, was yesterday sentenced to death by the Colombo High Court over the possession and peddling of 25.77 grams of heroin. The accused, who is a resident of Wellampitiya, was arrested in Sedawatte while he was transporting 59 grams of heroin on a motorcycle, in 2017. The case was taken up before High Court Judge Gihan Kulatunga.

The Attorney-General had filed indictments comprising two charges against the accused, under the Poisons, Opium and Dangerous Drugs (Amendment) Act No. 13 of 1994.
