Positive attitude is the real winner

Mrs World 2020 Caroline Jurie brings back the crown after 35 years

“I’m so honored to share my heritage and culture on the global stage. Congratulations in advance to all of the beautiful and dynamic contestants. You are an inspiration to so many!!!” read Mrs Sri Lanka World Caroline Lucy Anne Jurie’s facebook post right before she stepped onto the stage at the Mrs World 2020 finale on December 6 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Little did the 27 year old beauty dream that she will make history as she was crowned Mrs. World 2020, bringing back the title home for the second time - 35 years after Rosy Senanayake was crowed Mrs World in 1984.

Jurie beat 51 contestants from across the world to clinch the title at the gala event which was held at Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino. She won over the jury after answering the final question expressing her wish to spread the word about depression awareness across the globe. She was crowned by Mrs World 2019 Jennifer Le from Vietnam. The first runner up was from Ireland and the Second Runner up was from the US Virgin Islands.

Jurie made it to the top 20 before being chosen for the top six contestants which also comprised countries like Ireland, Switzerland, South Africa, US Virgin Islands and Ukraine.

Besides being crowned as Mrs Sri Lanka World 2019 in October, Jurie also has the titles Mrs Personality 2019 and Mrs Top Model 2019 to her name.

Born in Kandana as the third child in a family with four siblings Jurie is a product of St. Sebastian Girls’ School, Kandana.

“The journey was no walk in the park from the beginning because I didn’t get any sponsorship or support from any responsible authorities. Flying to take part in the pageant in the US was possible only because of my loving family and my two guardian angels, Silani and Neville,” Jurie said.

She is also grateful to the former Mrs World Alica Lee Gianetta from Hong Kong who headed the Mrs Sri Lanka jury held a few months ago.

“She supported me and gave me a lot of advice on how to groom myself. My visa papers were rejected by the American Embassy and if Alica didn’t convince the authorities I wouldn’t have been able to represent my country at the pageant,” Jurie added.

Stressing on the importance of believing in one’s dreams Jurie adds that married women should especially think big and never compromise on what they believe in.

“They are a vital part of nation building and women empowerment. I believe that my victory set an example that life does not end for women once they are married. What matters is your positive attitude towards life. Believe in yourself. Self-confidence is the key to achieve your passions,” Jurie adviced.

Prior to taking part in Mrs Sri Lanka for Mrs World Jurie has not walked the ramp or modeled at any event. Therefore she notes that the event opened a whole new world for her. She had been the least experienced among all the contestants at the event. That had been an intimidating thought indeed but one she managed to overcome with winning colours.

“I am grateful to Mrs World Sri Lanka National Director Chandimal Jayasinghe for giving me the opportunity to represent our country, Thank you so much for having faith in me and thanks for being an amazing National Director,” Jurie expressed adding that there isn’t a single day when she does not thank God for giving her an understanding and caring husband.

“Without you I would not have been here today representing our country. Thank you for keeping me safe and showing me direction in life,” she added with a radiant smile.
