Cambrian Shanuka Dulaj a fine all rounder

Former Prince of Wales’ College, Moratuwa first eleven cricketer Shanuka Dulaj Vithanawasam. completed the magical 1000 runs in the 2014 season and ended up with 1371 runs with three centuries and eight fifties and his top score was against formidable Peterites with 178 runs and He also claimed 49 wickets

In the same year he was adjudged as the Singer Schoolboy Cricketer of the year and in addition he carried away the Best Batsman and the Best All rounder’s Awards. He added another feather to his cap when he was adjudged the Best All rounder, Best Batsman Runner Up and School boy Cricketer of the year Runner Up of the All Island Schools Contest – 2014. By thus he carried away six awards in the same year which is a very rare achievement.

When he scored 1000 runs he joined the select band of Cambrian Cricketers who passed the 1000 run mark. They are Hemal Mendis (Jnr), Virantha Fernando, Pemlal Fernando, Wasanthalal Fernando, Krishan Fernando, Nilantha Bopage, Nilantha Cooray, Rashan Peiris, Sahan Wijeratne, Hasantha Fernando, Kusal Mendis and H. I. Fernando.

He continued playing for the school in the Under 13 Division Three Team and played for one year and in the same division “A” team for two years. As an under 13 player he was selected to the Bowling Squad under former Sri Lanka Cricketer Ruwan Kalpage. In the following two years he played for the school under 15 team and got selected to play for the Prima Cup and playing for Western Province versus Southern and Northern Provinces he scored unbeaten 88 and 124 runs respectively and he carried away the Man of the Match Award in the Finals. With these performances he earned a place for the under 17 tour of India for the Coca Cola Cup.

In his first year for the first eleven he scored 970 runs with three centuries against Mahanama, Isipathana and Trinity and claimed 75 wickets and in the Big Match he carried away the Best Batsman Award. In the following year he collected 668 runs with a century versus Trinity and notched up six fifties and in 2013/14 season he scored 1371 runs and captured 49 wickets in that year in the Big Match he earned the Man of the Match Prize. He received his school colours in 2011 and reawarded in 2012 and 13. He was selected for the World Cup Under 19 Squad but was unlucky not to gain a place. After leaving school he represented Moratuwa Sports Club in the Sara Trophy tournament for two successive years.
