Met. Dept. warning: strong winds, stormy seas

The Meteorology Department has alerted over warnings of rough sea conditions and strong winds.

The Met. Department forecasts that due to a low level atmospheric disturbance in the southeast of Sri Lanka, showery and windy condition expected to enhance in the south-eastern, Eastern and southern sea areas.

Accordingly, active clouds can develop in the deep and shallow sea areas off the coast extending from Vakarai to Matara via Batticaloa, Pottuvil and Hambanthota.

Therefore, the possibility for heavy thundershowers and sudden roughness, associated with sudden increase of wind speed (up to 70-80 kmph) in the above given sea areas is high.

Therefore Naval units and fishing communities have been asked to be vigilant in this regard.
