Cardinal gives 2-hour statement in camera

Colombo Archbishop Rt. Rev. Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith assured fullest cooperation for the inquiry being carried out by the five-member Commission appointed by former President Maithripala Sirisena on the Easter Sunday catastrophe.

He stated this speaking to media after giving nearly a four-hour statement before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) situated at the BMICH premises last evening.

The Archbishop had given nearly a two-hour confidential statement before the Commission following the public hearings. He has again been called before the PCoI at 9 a.m. today.

The five-member commission appointed on September 21 this year is headed by Court of Appeal Judge Janak de Silva and comprises Court of Appeal Judge Nissanka Bandula Karunarathna, retired Court of Appeal Judge Nihal Sunil Rajapaksa, retired High Court judge Bandula Kumara Atapattu and retired Ministry Secretary W.M.M.Adikari.
