Heavy rains affect over 30,000 people in Batticaloa

Heavy rains affected 30,830 people in Batticaloa and about 22,616 people have been evacuated from 6,696 families, Central Disaster Management Unit sources said.

The Kiran and Kinnaiyadi Rivers and tanks have overflowed and Batticaloa, Vellaveli, Mandoor, and Palachcholai roads flooded. The tri-forces evacuated the people of the areas using tractors and motorboats.

Batticaloa Government Agent M.Uthayakumar, Parliamentarian S.Viyalaendran and officials from Batticaloa Disaster Management Center and tri-forces are providing the affected with relief.
