Ban on importing several spices & minor crops

The Ministry of Finance has banned the import of spices and minor crops.

The importation of black pepper, Dry Areca nut, cinnamon, nutmeg, mace, cardamom, ginger, turmeric and cloves for re-export has been banned.

The gazette notifications issued under Commercial Hub Regulations in the Finance Act, Direct Re-export and Import of spices for the purpose of re-export after minor processing are prohibited, from midnight yesterday.

The purpose of the ban is to protect the local farmers and to benefit them.
