Using banana as a part of a beauty treatment

Banana Face Mask for glowing skin

Banana can be used topically for skin of all types. Containing anti-aging and antioxidant properties, a face mask will gently nourish, cleanse, exfoliate and moisturize aging, acne-prone, dry, normal and combination skin. You can also add extra skin friendly kitchen ingredients for a powerful face mask.

For oily skin

Combine one mashed banana with lemon juice and honey.

For dry skin

Use one mashed banana, with 1 tablespoon pureed avocado, and olive oil.

Exfoliating skin cells

Gently slough off dead cells on the surface of the skin using banana and other skin friendly kitchen ingredients, such as coconut oil and oatmeal. Oatmeal has an abrasive texture that will help scour off excess dead cells on the skin surface while banana and coconut milk will keep the oatmeal from over-exfoliating skin and hydrate and nourish the skin.

Smoothing rough, cracked heels

If your heels look and feel rough, pamper them with a luxurious foot scrub to soften and smoothen them. After soaking your feet in warm lemon water, massage two to three mashed bananas onto your feet, concentrating on your heels.

Rinse off with tepid water and say hello to lovely soft heels.

Reducing puffy eyes

The inner surface of the peel can cool and reduce puffy red eyes and remove under-eye circles.

Place the peel over your tired eyelids and relax for 10 to 15 minutes. When the time is up, remove it and wash your eyes with cool water.

Side effects

The peel of the banana will exfoliate the skin more than the fruits would due to the enzymes contained in it. Therefore be mindful not to over use it.

Selecting bananas for beauty treatments

Banana face masks

Bananas contain good amounts of vitamin C that helps in maintaining the natural and youthful glow of the skin. You can bring back the lost glow using these face masks.

* Mash half a ripe banana and mix it with one tablespoon of sandalwood paste and ½ teaspoon of honey. Leave it on for 20 to 25 minutes and wash with lukewarm water. This face mask is beneficial for oily skin as sandalwood helps in cleaning excess sebum and oil from the skin while the banana keeps it moisturized.

* Mash one ripe banana and mix it with lemon juice (from one lemon). Leave it on for about 20 minutes. This mask is full of vitamin C, which helps get rid of dullness and reduces spots and blemishes.

* You can also use banana milk for the face. Simply mash a ripe banana until you get a lump-free pulp. Now, add an equal amount of milk and mix well. If you have dry skin, you can also add a few drops of olive oil. Apply the mixture to your face and neck and leave it on for 20 minutes. You can probably eat another banana as you relax. Rinse with warm water first (to open the pores), and then with cold water (to close the pores).

For soft hair

Mix a ripe banana with avocado and add coconut milk to the mixture.

Apply it to your hair and wait for 15 to 20 minutes.

This pack conditions damaged hair and makes the hair soft. Instead of avocado, you can also make the same pack by adding cocoa. The presence of cocoa helps in bringing out the natural color of the hair.

For shiny hair

Peel a banana and add 1/4 cup of olive oil and one egg white.

Add all the ingredients to a blender and puree for a couple of minutes.

Apply the mixture to your hair and let it stay for 15 minutes.

You can then wash your hair with your favorite shampoo and conditioner.

For strong hair

Mix the pulp of a ripe banana with yogurt.

Apply the smooth paste to your scalp and rinse with cool water after 15 to 20 minutes.

For dry hair

Mix three teaspoons of honey with the pulp of a ripe banana.

Apply the mask to your hair while it is still wet.

Let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes.

Shampoo and condition your hair.
