Vehicle purchases for state agencies suspended

The President’s Office has suspended the purchase of new vehicles for ministries and institutes under ministries.

State Administration, Internal Affairs, Provincial Council and Local Government Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon told Daily News that all ministries have been advised by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa not to purchase new vehicles.

He said this decision had been taken to curtail government expenses.However, he said that if there was a requirement for vehicles for any ministry, approval had to be obtained from the President’s Office and additional vehicles under the President’s Office will be provided.President Rajapaksa requested all ministers in his government to curtail all non-essential expenditure, adding that ministers are appointed to serve the people and not to engage in extravagant expenditure including expenses allocated for ministerial vehicles, transport and building facilities.
