Hemasiri, Pujith further remanded till Dec. 17

Former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara who were arrested on charges of criminal negligence and the failure to prevent or minimise the damage caused during the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks, were yesterday further remanded till December 17 by Colombo Additional Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage.

Filing a further B-report before the court, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed the court that they had obtained mobile phone call details of the former Defence Secretary and IGP.

The CID also stated that investigations have revealed that the former Defence Secretary and the IGP had no connection to the suspects connected to the Easter Sunday terror attacks.

IGP Pujith Jayasundara and former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando are charged with criminal negligence, murder and failure to prevent or at least minimise damage caused in the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.

The CID also stated that they would obtain statements from 10 police officers in the near future.

State Counsel Sahanya Narampanawa appeared on behalf of the Attorney General’s Department.

Colombo Additional Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage fixed further inquiries for December 17.
