Magistrate directs TV channels to handover unedited video clips of press briefing

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) yesterday informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court that they have commenced an investigation into a revelation and a statement made by the former Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Minister Rajitha Seneviratne on November 10 over white van abductions.

The CID yesterday informed Court that they commenced an investigation pertaining to the controversial statement made by the former Minister Ranjitha Seneviratne regarding the two persons who claimed to be a white van driver and a victim of an attempted abduction in such white van.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayarathne yesterday issued an order directing all the television channels to handover unedited video clips to Criminal Investigations Department in connection with the press conference organized by the former Minister. The two persons were identified as Anthony Douglas Fernando and Athula Sanjaya Madanayake. A complaint in this regard had been lodged by Kumudu Pradeep Sanjeewa Perera.

The Colombo Chief Magistrate instructed the Police to submit a progress report into the investigations on next calling date.
