Foreign couple taken for a ‘ride’

The Police is carrying out investigations into a cab driver who has fled with the money and belongings of a foreign couple travelling from Ella to Kataragama.

According to Police, Rs. 1.6 million was in the cab when the driver had fled with the cash.

The driver had requested the couple to get down and push the car as it had developed engine trouble near the Weerawila tank bund. The couple had obliged and got off the vehicle only to see the driver restart it and flee the area with their cash and belongings. Weeraketiya Police is investigating.
