Several lowlands in the Ampara District have been inundated following the heavy showers that occurred last week. Other districts in the Eastern Province, such as Batticaloa and Trincomalee, have also faced floods owing to the same issue.

The prevailing inclement weather continues to affect cultivation activities in the aforementioned regions and flood victims have been relocated to temporary camps by their respective Grama Niladharies, Divisional Secretariats, as well as volunteer organisations.

Meteorological Department officials in Pottuvil have urged the public to take precautions against strong winds and lightning. Furthermore, rescue measures and steps to minimise property damage have been prepared by the Municipal Councils in the affected areas.

The public has also been advised to clean their surroundings to prevent the spread of dengue.
