Sajith raises concerns over Swiss Embassy issue

Former Minister and UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa, in a media release on Saturday, said that it was unfair to criticise a new government right after it was assumed power as it must be given a considerable time to fulfill the mandate given by the public.

Premadasa, however, raised his concerns on the alleged abduction of a local staff member of the Embassy of Switzerland in Colombo. He said the incident has left a black mark on the country’s history of diplomacy.

Premadasa further said that instances of revenge taking against several prominent Police investigators and the media could also be observed over the past few days.

“The former Government assured freedom of expression and right to information, but now the media is intimidated,” he said adding that he decided to break his silence taking into consideration such incidents.
