Rules to discipline private bus conductors, drivers sought

Thousands of bus passengers of Kalutara have appealed relevant authorities to implement laws to discipline private bus conductors who do not wear uniforms and not issue tickets.

Some conductors even do not use ticketing machines or ticket books, they said.

The private bus conductors in the Kalutara do not issue tickets and do not return the balance to the passengers.

The passengers more often engage in heated arguments with the conductors.

Although checkers have been employed by the Western Province Transport Service in Kalutara, they do not perform their duties the passengers complain.

Many private buses operate in rural and urban areas in Kalutara without route permits.
