Vanni troops initiate major housing scheme for regional destitute families

The Security Force Headquarters (Vanni) has been providing houses for destitute families sponsored by many local and foreign philanthropists and donors at their personal expenses.

Security Force (Vanni) Commander Major General Jagath Gunawardena leads the project.

Eleven houses have already been constructed and another four houses are constructed under the programme now. Electricity, household appliances, furniture and a tube have been provided with occupants of the each house.

Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim people of Wanni will receive the houses. A housing unit costs around Rs. 1 million.

The Colombo JayagrahanayaFoundation President together with the Bambalapitiya Raja Jewellers General Manager fund a house to be donated to U. D. Lal Kumudu of Moragoda, Kekirawa. Another three houses were donated to W. Nandasena of Medawachchiya, A. P. Lalani of Selalihinigama and H. S. Danuska of Konketiyawa, Welioya.

R. Nivarsan, a student who undergoes many hardships without a house, however, has excelled in Grade 5 Scholarship Exam 2018. The Security Force Headquarters (Wanni) with the sponsorship of Chandana Alahakoon, who works at an affiliated institute of the United Nations funded a house for the student and his family. Nagasena of Pompeimadu, Ajith Premakumara of Padavi Mahasenapuras, Sanjeewa Sirisena of Angunachchiya, Sarath Tilakaratne of Bagaswewa have also been provided with houses under the patronage of retired Major Shan Fernando and Saman Marasinge in Australia.

Sampath Bank’s Deputy General Manager Taraka Ranwala, and former National Cricket Captain Rangana Herath also contributed for building these houses.

Priyantha Premasiri of Buddhangala, and N.G.K. Karunarathne of Mahasenpura also received two houses funded by Priyangani Brandygampola and Nishan Wettasinghe in Australia.

The programme is coordinated by Commander of the 212 Brigade Colonel Anil Peiris.
