Government will develop state institutions - Minister Prasanna

Industrial Export, Investment Promotion and Civil Aviation Minister Prasanna Ranatunge yesterday said state institutions will be strengthened and developed under the new government.

While noting that the former regime’s strategy was to weaken state institutions to justify their privatization policy, Ranatunge said the present government will never resort to such tactics.

The minister was speaking to the members of the Progressive Workers Union at the Airport and Aviation Services at the ministry premises.

Speaking further on the efforts by the former government to weaken state institutions, Ranataunge said they had used the Mattala International Airport to store paddy.

In a lighter vein the minister said unlike the former regime the present Government was not prepared to use the Palali Airport to store dried chilies.

The union members during the meeting pointed out to the minister that the Airport and Aviation Services management had acted in an arbitrary manner in the past while neglecting workers rights and welfare.

While promising to address their concerns the minister also said a new programme will be initiated to uplift the tourism industry soon.
