Former DS, IGP further remanded

Former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Pujith Jayasundara, who were arrested on charges of criminal negligence and the failure to prevent or minimise the damage caused in the Easter Sunday terrorist attack, were yesterday further remanded till December 3 by Colombo Additional Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage.

Filing a further B-report before court, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday informed the Magistrate that 73 financial institutions had submitted financial statements of Hemasiri Fernando and Pujith Jayasundara.

The CID also stated that no bank account has been maintained in the name and in the National identity card number of former Defence secretary Hemasiri Fernando. The CID further said that five bank accounts have been maintained in the name and the identity card number of IGP Pujith Jayasundara.

Court was told by the CID that they had obtained mobile phone call details of the former Defence Secretary and IGP. The CID also stated that investigations have revealed that the former Defence Secretary and the IGP had no connection with the suspects who were arrested and killed in connection with the Easter Sunday Bomb Attack.

IGP Pujith Jayasundara and former Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando are charged with criminal negligence, murder and failure to prevent or at least minimize damages, caused in the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.

Additional Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage fixed further inquiries for December 3.
