Even as he accepted his electoral triumph, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Sunday pledged to fulfil during his tenure, all the pledges given to the citizenry in his election manifesto.
Delivering a brief speech after the official announcement of final election results of the Presidential Election 2019 by Elections Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya at the Elections Secretariat, Colombo, President Rajapaksa further pledged to extend his fullest support to the Elections Commission to hold future elections on schedule. “I have been able to change the country’s election culture. I didn’t criticise anybody during my election campaign. I have also been able to conduct an environment friendly election campaign. I am very well aware that I am the President of both those people who voted for and against me. So I am dedicated to serving all Sri Lankans without considering their religious beliefs and ethnicity,” he said.
He expressed his gratitude to the Elections Commission, the armed forces, police, the administrative institutions and, the people of the country for the contribution made by them to hold a fair and peaceful election.
