SC dismisses writ petition filed against holding Presidential Election

A writ petition filed seeking an order to quash the extraordinary gazette notification issued by the Elections Commission calling for a Presidential Election to be held on November 16 was yesterday dismissed by the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court decided to dismiss the petition in limine since there is no legal basis to proceed with the petition.

Thamindra Dayal Lenawa, a resident of Panadura had filed this petition naming Elections Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya, its members and the Attorney General as respondents.
