Leading SLFPers absent at Gota’s Kegalle rally

Former SLFP Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya and Deputy Minister Dushyantha Mithrapala were conspicuous by their absence at the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Kegalle rally held in support of Gotabaya Rajapaksa on November 7.

Since they are considered as SLFP heavy weights in the Kegalle district their absence was a hot topic of hush-hush discussions among the gathering present at the meeting.

Aranayake SLFP Co-organiser Deepthi Sumanaratne when inqured about the absence of the two SLFP leading figures in the district, said Opposition Leader and SLPP leader Mahinda Rajapaksa was scheduled to call on Ranjith Siyambalapitiya at his house and Siyambalapitiya was waiting to receive Mahinda Rajapaksa at his house in Ruwanwella along with Dushmantha Mithrapala and other SLFP organisers in the district. Sumanaratne said however Siyambalapitiya took steps to get village level SLFP activities to attend Gotabaya rally.

However, a former SLFP District Organiser who refused to to disclose his identity opined that Siyambalapitiya, Mithrapala and other SLFP organisers refrained from attending the Gotabaya rally because they feared to face the usual hooting and jeering reception at the SLPP rally.
