The main characters behind the series of assassinations and assaults that took place during the previous regime will be revealed to the country within the next two three days, Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said. The Minister argued that with these revelations, people will understand how the war heroes had become helpless due to the orders they were asked to follow by the then rulers to commit such crimes.
Senaratne stated this when speaking at the ceremony to launch the War Heroes’ Charter of Presidential Candidate, Minister Sajith Premadasa held at Taj Samudra Hotel, Colombo, yesterday.
Addressing the gathering of disabled and retired war heroes, he said the victims of those assassinations had been subject to assault before being killed but, soldiers who had been involved in these cases due to such orders did not even know about the victims.
“Soldiers who were used for those murders have been prosecuted. But, those who issued orders to commit such crimes have been evading the courts for the past four and a half years,” Senaratne said. The Minister explained that it was not the present government that arrested the suspect military personnel, but, the courts, based on the reports produced by the Police.
