Sajith accuses MR of double standards on ethnic issue

New Democratic Front (NDF) Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa yesterday accused former President Mahinda Rajapaksa of applying double standards in dealing with the ethnic issue.

He said that Rajapaksa had agreed to grant Federalism to solve the ethnic issue when he was abroad while talking of a unitary country while at home.

“I don’t have double standards in dealing with any issue in the country. My view is that we should go for a maximum power devolution within a unitary structure of the country,” he said.

He said the former President had promised to grant 13 plus when he was abroad with former External Affairs Minister Professor G.L.Peiris.

“When the former President returned to Sri Lanka, he changed into 13 minus to mislead the public,” he said.

Addressing a massive election rally in Thalathuoya, Premadasa said that he is committed to protecting the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity while ensuring maximum power devolution within the unitary state.

The rally was organized by Hewaheta UNP organizer Shanthini Kongahage.
