Ibbagamuwa auditorium neglected

Residents living in and around the Ibbagamuwa town request responsible authorities to take action to open the Ibbagamuwa Auditorium to the public which was constructed by the Public Administration Ministry at a cost of Rs. 150 million.

Construction work was completed in the latter part of 2018 and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe opened the building on July 14, 2018. But, the building still remains closed and two security officers have been deployed.

People in the area said that the work on this building was first started in 2013 and the construction work was held up in 2015. However, it was completed in 2018. The building has been lying idle for the last 15 months since it was officially opened. The people also said that it was a waste of public funds.

When the Daily News inquired from Ibbagamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Sumith Udukumbura, he said the building has not yet been handed over to the Sabha. They said as soon as the auditorium is handed over to the Pradeshiya Sabha it could be used purposefully.
