Civil Society and Trade Union Collective (CSTC) Co-Convener Saman Rathnapriya said yesterday that there are doubts whether the SLPP will try to create chaos in the country to boost the chances of its Presidential candidate within the next 10 days since all the armed groups led by Abdul Razik, Pillayan, Karuna Amman and M.L.A.M. Hizbullah are now supporting Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Addressing a media briefing held at the CSTC office in Rajagiriya yesterday, he said, “The Pohottuwa will resort to any chaos in their greed for power. Therefore, we urge Security Forces and the Police not to let bloodshed occur again in the country and be vigilant at all times.

He said SLPP activists are trying to come to power by spreading racism and religious extremism. It was Gotabaya Rajapaksa who created Zahran, gave him a salary, vehicles and all other facilities. He is the very same person who created the extremist groups like Bodu Bala Sena. If they have created Zahran, they should also take responsibility for the brutal bomb attacks planned by him.

“There is a great suspicion whether Gotabaya Rajapaksa who created Zahran is behind the attack,” he added. “This further tallies when diplomat Dayan Jayatilleke stated that the SLPP should be held responsible for the Easter Sunday attacks. Even Presidential candidate Mahesh Senanayake has also said that there is no more talk of Muslim extremists now as one of the persons who instigated a chaotic situation has become a Presidential candidate.”

There are reports that the majority of public servants especially the Security Forces had voted in favour of Sajith Premadasa because they do not like to be engaged in cleaning canals, selling vegetables, trimming grass and pinning sari pins, Rathnapriya said.

Prof. H.W. Cyril also spoke.
