No voter with conscience from Muslim and Tamil communities would cast his or her vote for the opposition Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa, All Ceylon Makkal Congress (ACMC) Leader and Industry, Commerce, Resettlement of Protracted Displaced Persons, Cooperative Development, Skills Development and Vocational Training Minister Rishad Bathiudeen said.
He was speaking at a rally held in Vavuniya on Sunday (3) in support of New Democratic Front (NDF) Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa.
“The people who reside in these areas faced immense hardships and grievances during the last four decades. Some parents and relatives are loitering here and there seeking information about their relatives who disappeared during the wartime. We have been affected by the war and our people were displaced during the struggle to save their lives,” he said.
“We have to live without our relatives, properties, houses and also peace. We cast our votes in 2015 election seeking solutions to all problems which minority communities faced in this country. We have not gained what we wanted in the Presidential election-2015. This situation arose as political power was polarised,” he said.
“Presidential aspirant Sajith Premadasa would be able to find permanent solutions to all our problems. If Sajith Premadasa becomes President, power will not be handled by two different parties. The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC), ACMC and civil organisations have agreed with the policies of Sajith Premadasa and extended their support to him,” the Minister said.
“NDF candidate Sajith Premadasa said that there will be no minorities and majorities in this country. All communities and their rights will be equally protected. Minister Sajith will not allow anyone to take the law of the country into their hands. A true Buddhist will not destroy others’ properties and damage religious places. We believe him a lot and his promises,” he said.
“If we want to live together with other communities peacefully, we have to cast our votes for Sajith Premadasa and make him the next President of this country. Our responsibility is to show the right path to our youth. The NDF candidate will ensure the security of the Muslim community,” Minister Bathiudeen said.
