Ballot boxes of three sizes for voting

New ballot boxes of three sizes would be issued in respect of 712 polling booths to be set up in the Galle district for the Presidential Election, Galle District Deputy Election Commissioner K.U. Chandralal said.

The polling booths with registered voters less than 800 will be issued small ballot boxes, while the polling stations with 810 to 1,600 voters will be provided with medium-sized boxes and those with over 1,600 registered voters will be issued large boxes.

For the November 16 election, cardboard ballot boxes will be used for all districts, except Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Batticaloa, Mannar, Puttalam, Mullaitivu, Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura and Kurunegala, to which plastic boxes will be dispatched, the Deputy Election Commissioner said.

There are 858,749 registered voters in the Galle district for the upcoming Presidential Election. The Hiniduma electorate has the highest number of registered voters (104,703) out of the 10 electorates in the district.

The Balapitiya electorate has the lowest number of registered voters numbering 55,062.

The counting of votes will be held at 75 centres established at the College of Technology, Galle and St. Aloysius College, Kaluwella.

Postal vote counting will be carried out at 19 centres set up at the Galle District Secretariat.

The National Elections Commission said 5,000 new ballot boxes are being produced for this Presidential Election due to the large number of candidates, which necessitates a 26-inch long ballot paper.
