UNP MP Santha Sisirakumara Abeysekara re-remanded till Nov. 15

The unlawful assembly case against Puttalam district UNP Parliamentarian Santha Sisirakumara Abeysekara who is in remand for breaching bail conditions due to be taken up yesterday (5) was postponed till November 15 by the Chilaw High Court Registrar since High Court Judge Yvonne Fernando was on leave. The Parliamentarian was re-remanded till that date.

This case has been filed before the Chilaw High Court by the Attorney General against Santha Sisirakumara Abeysekara and several others for being members of an unlawful assembly on May 30, 2004 while also carrying a firearm.

Earlier, the suspects were granted bail on condition that they appear before the Chilaw Police on the last Sunday of each month. Since the Parliamentarian had failed to comply with the bail conditions on two earlier occasions, he was remanded till October 17 when he appeared before court on October 10.

Although counsel appearing for the Parliamentarian on October 17 appealed for bail, the High Court Judge discussed the request and re-remanded him till November 5.
