Indika and Chamari will lead weightlifting teams at South Asian Games

The Commonwealth Games Silver medal weight lifter Indika Dissanayaka and Chamari Warnakulasuriya will lead the Sri Lanka mens and womens weight lifting teams for the South Asian Games which will be held from 1st to 10th December in Nepal. Dissanayaka who set up three Sri Lanka records recently at 73 Kg weight category at the world championships in Thailand will lead a strong contingent for the South Asian Games.

He has a record of 134 kg weight at snatch method, 164kg clean and jerk method and total highest 298kg of this weight category He hopes to win a gold medal this time. Last South Asia Games in Guwahathi , India Dissanayake was able to win the silver medal in the 69kg category.

Meanwhile Sri Lanka has named seven member men’s team for the South Asian Games. Thiwanka Palagasinghe, Chaturanga Lakmal, Chaintana Geethal Widhanage the most experienced lifter who has already won the Commonwealth Games gold in 2006 and silver in 2010, S.M Peters, Y.D.I. Kumara, W.P. U Charuka are the other members of the men’s team.

The women’s team captain Chamari was awarded the bronze medal at the Commonwealth games 2018. She established two new Sri Lankan Records. She has won the silver medal in the South Asian Games. She is the National Champion from 2011 to 2017 in the 53 KG category.

Apart from Chamari ,Commonwealth Games bronze medal winner Hansani Gomas is once again included in the the women’s team while D.M.S Samarakoon, R.M.N.S Rajapaksha, V. Arshika, H.W.T.N.B.J Haputenne and B.S Priyanthi are the other members of the women’s team.

R.M.R.B Wickramasinghe will accompany the team as head coach while G. Nishanthan is the Manager of the team P.K.G N Gayan, S.M.R Gunatilleka the two coaches and assistant coach P. Indrakmara and M.D.M.U Dissnayaka the masseur will be the weightlifting supporting staff.
