‘Terminator’, a good name for Gotabaya – PM

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said the free education system will collapse if SLPP Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s election manifesto is implemented.

“The future generation will be deprived of free education if the policy manifesto of Rajapaksa is implemented,” he said.

He was addressing an intellectuals’ discussion organised by several youth organisations at the Public Library auditorium yesterday.

According to him, Rajapaksa in his election manifesto has proposed to eliminate the Z-score used for the university entrance. “If this was implemented, we will lose free education at a time when our government has increased the university entrance,” he said.

He said when the Z-score formula is used, qualified students could enter universities through a reasonable process; if not, this would be huge harm to the education system and an injustice to the children of the poor families.

“Termination of the Z-score formula is a calamity than the Rathupaswala incident. This would destroy the future of many youths. If so, the name ‘Terminator’ would be the most suitable one for Rajapaksa,” the Premier said.

Gotabaya Rajapaksa should accept the challenge by his rival candidate, Minister Sajith Premadasa for debate as the people of this country are keen to know their policies and programmes and get them clarified, the Prime Minister said.

“Sajith Premadasa has been representing Parliament since 2000 as an MP, Deputy Minister and a Cabinet Minister. But Gotabaya Rajapakse has never engaged in politics,” he said.
