Former regime took measures to sell the Hambantota Port to China - Arjuna

Transport and Civil Aviation Minister Arjuna Ranatunga yesterday said that the Rajapaksa regime, took steps to sell the the Hambantota Port to China,

He stated this in reply to a statement made by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa on Sunday that Presidential candidate, Minister Sajith Premadasa had not raised any objection when the port was being sold to China.

“As then minister in charge of the subject, I attempted to revise the agreement and make it advantageous to the country. But, unfortunately, I was removed from my portfolio,” he added.

According to him, none of the Rajapaksas participated in the Parliamentary debate held with regard to the Hambantota Port and raised objections then. But, they are the ones who paved the way to sell this harbor to China,” the minister said.

“The Rajapaksas have a strong connection with China. When I was in China, I once saw that there is a photo of ex-President Rajapaksa in the Chinese company. So people can imagine the connection they have with China”, the minister further said.
