Lions hold ‘Jeewana Yathra 2019’ for the needy in Ampara

This year’s Jeewana Yathra programme, which consisted of 10 projects, was held last month in the Ampara District, a press release from the Lions Club said.

The annual mega multi-service programme, which was launched in 2012, is a combined effort of the Lions Clubs from Leo District 306 A2. It exceeds a budget of Rs.1 million and aids around 5,000 beneficiaries every year.

The programme aims to aid the underprivileged in the country; to help improve their lifestyles while paying special attention to schoolchildren.

A book donation project was also launched under the Jeewana Yathra programme this year to provide stationery to needy children.

An art competition was also conducted at 11 schools for 1,250 students between Grades 1 and 5.

The winners of the competition received medals and prizes.

Furthermore, wheelchairs and computers were donated while 100 saplings were also planted at a number of schools.
