Navy nabs 10 Indian fishermen for poaching

The Navy apprehended 10 Indian fishermen along with two fishing trawlers for poaching in Sri Lankan territorial waters on Saturday.

The fisherman were apprehended by the Northern Naval Command during a patrol conducted in the northwestern sea area of the Delft island. The group of Indian fishermen were poaching in Sri Lankan territorial waters when they were apprehended. Subsequently, the fishermen were escorted to SLNS Uththara and the seized trawlers were brought to SLNS Elara.

The group of fishermen are expected to be handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Jaffna after a medical examination, for onward action.
