Rs. 50,000 fine for erecting structure in Galle Fort

Galle Chief Magistrate Harshna Kekulawela fined a Rs. 50,000 on a suspect for carrying out an illegal construction on Leyn Baan Street in the Galle Fort.

The suspect, Lelwala Hewage Thilina Damayantha, was prosecuted by the Galle Police following his arrest on a complaint by Archeology Department officials over the unlawful construction. The magistrate also ordered police to submit a report on the legal provisions on the possibility of removing the unlawful erection and restore the same structure to the previous antiquated state after consultations with the officials of the Urban Development Authority and the Department of Archeology on November 18, the next trial date.
