Why is Gota shy to debate with Sajith?- UNP MP Indunil

UNP MP Thushara Indunil yesterday asked why Gotabaya Rajapaksa would not accept the challenge by Premadasa for a debate. Noting UPFA back-bencher Namal Rajapaksa’s offer to stand-in for Gotabaya Rajapaksa in a debate, Indunil remarked: “He should be more matured for such a debate. A senior politician like Premadasa does not need to debate with someone like Namal Rajapaksa. I would like to tell Namal Rajapaksa to send his uncle for this debate. If Namal Rajapaksa wants to debate, I, Thushara Indunil is more than happy to accept his challenge.”

The UNP Parliamentarian made these observations yesterday at a press brief held at Vauxhall Street NDF Presidential election campaign office. Deputy Minister Nalin Bandara also spoke at the press brief as well.

Indunil said that New Democratic Front (NDF) Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa’s election campaign was growing stronger by the day while Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksha’s election campaign was failing.

MP Indunil observed that Sri Lanka Freedom’s Party members led by former President Chandrika Kumaratunga, were gathering to support Sajith Premadasa.

“While progressive SLFP supporters who want to protect their political party are supporting Sajith Premadasa, those SLFP supporters who have pledged their support to Gotabaya Rajapaksa are finding it difficult to appear on Rajapaksa’s political stages,” Indunil said.

“All the star celebrities have left the Rajapaksa camp and only “Tikiri Kumarila” are left with the camp,” he added.

Indunil also said that Sajith Premadasa has committed himself to realize his vision which is included in his election manifesto.

MP Indunil also said that Rajapaksa’s junta is trying to spread violence during the election campaign. Indunil also pointed out that many garment factories which were established by former President R. Premadasa were closed down during the Rajapaksa regime. Indunil requested people to vote Sajith Premadasa as he is the son of former President R. Premadasa who provided employment opportunities for thousands of underprivileged youth in the country.

Deputy Minister Nalin Bandara speaking at the press brief pointed out that those who satirize presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa’s speech on looking into the needs of females are laughing at their own mothers and daughters,

Bandara pointed out that it is a shame to satirize such a topic in a society that seemingly upholds motherhood in very high regard.
