Sri Lankan Ambassador in Bahrain Pradeepa Saram met the Chief Executive Officer of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) Shaker Al Shater and expressed keenness on consolidating efforts with the chamber to expand business relations between the Kingdom and Sri Lanka.

The meeting focused on stepping-up trade and stimulating partnerships between both business communities. The importance of exchanging business delegations and holding joint functions were also discussed. Ambassador Saram highlighted that the Sri Lankan Embassy is prepared to cooperate with the chamber in every way possible to benefit the economic standing of both countries.

The BCCI CEO stated that it has been found a bigger array of special high-quality products beyond tea. There are great potentials for them in Manama and in Bahraini markets, Shater further said.

The Kingdom is also a major employer of Sri Lankans in the Gulf and about 10,000 skilled and unskilled Sri Lankans are employed in labour and professional service sectors in Bahrain. As per the statistics issued by the Labour Market Regulatory Authority of Bahrain in October 2019, Sri Lanka also remains as one of the top eight nationalities of domestic workers in Bahrain. BCCI CEO Shater invited the Sri Lankan business community to attend the 18th edition of the Arab Businessmen and Investors Conference to be held from November 11 – 13.
