India releases 18 local fishermen

Eighteen Sri Lankan fishermen who were released as a gesture of goodwill by the Indian government to mark the Deepavali festival arrived in Sri Lanka yesterday.

The Indian government also provided air travel for the fishermen to return to Colombo.

A group of relatives came to Colombo to receive the fishermen who had been released.

Some Indian fishermen took the Sri Lankan fishermen into custody after they were found stranded in the Indian waters.
