‘Cabinet nod for separate service of In-Service Advisors’

Kurunegala District United National Party (UNP) Parliamentarian and Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam told the Daily News yesterday (31) that he received the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers on Wednesday (30) to establish a separate service of In-Service Advisors (Teacher Instructors’ Service).

Accordingly, the qualified and experienced teacher instructors would be recruited in a formal manner for this new service shortly under the Education Ministry considering it as a national service.

Minister Kariyawasam said about 4,471 teacher instructors would be recruited for this service.

“I have already instructed my top officials to take steps in this regard and the National Salary Commission too has approved this proposal,” he said.

He added that this issue to set up a separate service of In-Service Advisors (ISAs) has been discussed since 2007, but no action was taken so far.

“However, I am happy to materialise the dream of those ISAs enabling them to serve the student population of this country with dignity hereafter,” the Minister said.
