Amunugama says Gota will usher in prosperous era

Urges everyone to read his manifesto:

Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) parliamentarian Dr. Sarath Amunugama urged academics, professionals, public servants and the people to read and analyse the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Presidential Candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s election manifesto as this will be the plan of taking the country towards a prosperous and splendid future.

He was addressing a press briefing in Colombo yesterday.

“We released this practical manifesto at a time when the security of this country is under threat and the country is sliding towards anarchy. The manifesto was compiled after many years of research and by considering the opinions of the public. The proposals were reviewed by groups of experts, professionals and senior public servants after a wide study. Therefore, it could be practically implemented in the country,” he added.

There are no hidden ideas and ambiguity in the manifesto and it has covered every single aspect of the main sectors, Dr. Amunugama said. Commenting on the proposed US$ 480 million Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) grant, he said the position of the SLPP and Gotabaya Rajapaksa about this matter will be announced after it is studied and analysed. Even though we are friendly with every country, we have to scrutinize thoroughly every single document dealing with external factors from the point of view of national security. This matter has to come before Parliament before a final decision is maden.

With the public announcement of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe that he would be the PM in the event of Sajith Premadasa becoming the President, our election campaign was further boosted. Although, we all have unanimouslydecided that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa will be the Prime Minister when Gotabaya Rajapaksa become President, Sajith Premadasa dodged the issue from the very beginning of his campaign as to who would be his PM. But with announcement made by PM Ranil Wickremesinghe, Premadasa’s election campaign was hindered. Wickremesinghe has proved to be a most inefficient leader rejected by the people as well as the party. Nobody in the country wants him as PM again,” he added.

“We have been doing research and found that Gotabaya Rajapaksa was actually about 10 points ahead in the opinion polls.”

United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) MP Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s victory will be assured with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding surrounding the formation of the Sri Lanka Nidahasa Podujana Alliance, an alliance comprising 16 parties. We hope our candidate will be able to get a massive vote base with this wining coalition and his victory is confirmed already,” he added.

UPFA MP Thilanga Sumathipala said this is the first time that a government servant is contesting for the post of Presidency. As he had handled the Tri-Forces and the UDA under a single leadership, he will be very successful in his capacity to take over the country. He has given his utmost emphasis to uplift the public service. He has stressed that decision making should always be done with the consultation of experts and intellectuals of various fields. I request public servants to consider this matter when they are voting today.
