Health sector will be streamlined - Eran

The health sector will be streamlined in the coming five years, State Finance Minister Eran Wickramaratne said yesterday.

“Public services must focus on improving the lives of civilians and Sajith Premadasa has a set of revolutionary policies to reinforce state sector services, State Minister Wickramaratne said.

He was addressing a press briefing at the New Democratic Front (NDF) election operations centre at Vauxhall Street, yesterday.

“Under our government, public services were allowed to operate democratically. Most of the public servants were traumatized during the Rajapaksa regime. Our candidate Sajith Premadasa will formulate a policy whereby public servants are provided with legal facilities and security to face any legal challenges that they may have to encounter while performing their official duty,” he added.

Moreover, he said that cancer patients will be allowed to receive unlimited treatment regardless of cost and nine hospitals similar to the Sri Jayawardhanapura General Hospital will be opened within the next few years.

“The Sri Jayawardhanapura General Hospital is a special hospital which falls under the control of the government providing a speedy service. We are hoping to improve the health sector and anybody who is over 35 years will be allowed to have free medical checkups. We also plan to establish a patient centered method unlike in the past,” State Minister Wickramaratne said.

“Sajith Premadasa is a man who upholds the rights of the common man. Therefore, with the vision of providing equal opportunities to every child, early childhood education will be taken under free education. Since there is a scarcity of teachers, a special training programme will be implemented along with the recruitment of 5,000 teachers,” Wickramaratne added.

“A special 1.6 million interest free loan will be provided for higher education students who are unable to attend state universities. The loan has to be paid once the student finds employment,” he said.

Wickremaratne said that “Our government introduced the Suwaseriya ambulance service and reduced the prices of 48 types of medical drugs. A UNP President has not ruled the country for 25 years and this is a great chance for us. Sajith is a leader who is dedicated to uplift the masses,” Wickramaratne added.
