Two children dead in mother’s suicide attempt

Two children died when their mother attempted to commit suicide by jumping into a well with them on Tuesday.

The incident had taken place in Pattakudirippu, Nedunkeni.

The deceased are a seven-year-old girl and a one-and-a-half-year-old boy. The boy had drowned in the well and the girl had died on admission to the Vavuniya District General Hospital.

The woman had attempted suicide because her husband had passed away 10 days ago.

She is still receiving treatment at the hospital.

Investigations are continuing.
